Iranian Foreign Relations in the Middle East
Iran has long had extensive relations with its neighbors, ranging from bilateral trade, to multilateral political cooperation, to joint investment programs. Iran has also offered to play a greater role in the reconstruction efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan and held discussions with Pakistan on counternarcotics cooperation and extensive gas pipeline projects. International concern over Iran’s nuclear enrichment activities have strained relations with some neighbors hand UN sanctions against Iran’s nuclear program have impeded bilateral trade in certain fields.
