ONGC is the largest petroleum company in India, accounting for more than three quarters of Indian production of crude oil and natural gas. Since the liberalization of Indian economic policy and the government's partial divestment in the 1990's, the company has taken its operations international. However, the Indian government remains the majority shareholder. ONGC Videsh is its wholly-owned subsidiary.
Oil India Ltd. is petroleum and natural gas company administered by the Indian Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. The company is involved in both upstream and downstream operations.
