In October 2008, Wolfgang Ruttenstorfer, chief executive of Austrian petrochemical company OMV, said that the Nabucco pipeline should consider Iran as a source. Iran has the second-largest natural gas reserves in the world, and would decrease Europe's reliance on Russian natural gas.
