German Firm-NIGC, Turbocompressors

description

According to several reports, Iran and an unnamed German firm have signed a one billion euro ($1.44 billion) deal for the delivery of 100 turbocompressors, to be used in upgrading Iran's natural gas industry.  Ali Reza Gharabi, the head of Iran's Gas Engineering and Development Company, announced the deal, noting that 45 turbocompressors had previously been bought from this German company.  To add to the confusion, the National Iranian Gas Company, NIGC, denied that any such deal had taken place.  Germany and Iran have a strong economic relationship, with $4.1 billion in trade in 2008.

Sources report that Israel is working behind the scenes to pressure the German government to cancel the deal.
