In January of 2009, it came to light that one of Hewlett Packard's distributors was selling printers to Iran and the company may have been in violation of American sanctions. Though the company maintained that it was within the law and did not have any personel stationed in the Islamic Republic, it vowed to go beyond the letter of the law and force its subsidiary companies to halt business.
