Iran - Turkmenistan, Gas Pipeline Deal

description

Turkmenistan and Iran signed a deal to increase gas exports from 8 billion BcM to 12.5 billion BcM from the Dauletabad gas field.  A new pipeline will also be constructed from the Dauletabad gas field directly to Iran, bypassing the traditional link through Russia.  The pipeline is expected to be completed by the end of 2009.

As of early November the pipeline has been completed.  Iranian and Turkmen officials expect the pipeline to become operational by December 2009.  By 2010 Iran hopes to increase gas imports from Turkmenistan to 14 BcM/year.
