Leonhardt & Blumberg - IRISL, Arms Shipment

description

A German ship, the Hansa India, was intercepted on October 3, 2009 carrying 8 containers of 7.62 mm ammunition by the United States Navy near the Suez Canal Zone.  The ship, belonging to Hamburg based Leonhardt & Blumberg, was chartered to the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Line, and on its way to Malta.  The US Navy suspects that the arms were to be offloaded, and sent to Syria thereafter.  Leonhardt & Blumberg has denied knowledge in the incident - the Hansa India was on a two year loan to IRISL.
