Megafon, Telecommunications

description

Russia's Megafon, one of the nation's largest telecommunications companies, has been offered a GSM operating license by Iran.  Iran tendered the contract in late 2008, but despite reports of Megafon's interest in the $4.6 billion project to develop mobile operations in Iran, the company has denied signing any deals, and says it has no interest in operating in Iran at this time.  As of September 2009, Iran again offered Megafon the rights to set up the country's third GSM network.
