NIOC - CNPC, South Pars Phase 11

description

China's National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) has won a contract to develop Phase 11 of the South Pars gas project.  The Chinese energy giant will replace Total SA, which has hesitated because of political concerns.  The deal is worth $4.7 billion.

CNPC has said it will begin drilling operations in March 2010.  In December, the company increased its Iran based staff to 60.
